The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone DLC Checklist

This interactive 100% Checklist lists every Main Quest, Side Quest, Treasure Hunt, Signpost and more in the Hearts of Stone DLC for Witcher 3.

Hearts of Stone DLC Overview

The checklist is located below this overview.

Interactive checklist for Hearts of Stone, the first expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Track every main quest, side quest, the DLC horse race, treasure hunts, and new fast-travel signposts. Auto-save your progress in our interactive 100% Completion Hearts of Stone Checklist.

Hearts of Stone expands the northeastern part of the wider Novigrad map. Several new signposts and locations appear in the far east and northeast. That is why most quests list Region: Novigrad even when they do not play out inside the city walls. Oxenfurt uses the Velen region label here for consistency with base-game checklists.

Key Content

The DLC introduces runes you can add to your weapons via the Runewright near the Upper Mill signposts, unlocked via the Enchanting side quests. It also introduces Gaunter O'Dimm and Olgierd von Everec. Expect difficult boss fights (for example the Toad Prince) during Evil's Soft First Touches and the Ofieri ambush sequence, the wedding comedy of Dead Man's Party, the auction and heist line starting at Open Sesame!, and the surreal finale of Whatsoever a Man Soweth….

All Hearts of Stone Main Quests

The main story is divided into 8 quests, out of which 3 are subquests for Open Sesame!

The quests tell the story of three of Olgierd’s wishes that Geralt must complete, before deciding on an ending and what to do with Gaunter O’Dimm.

In the finale (Whatsoever a Man Soweth…), you can steer toward the good ending or the bad ending depending on whether you meet Professor Shakeslock in Oxenfurt before the last ritual, and what you choose at the temple.

Item Name Description
Quest
Evil's Soft First Touches Region: Novigrad Signpost: Seven Cats Inn Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 32
Evil's Soft First Touches is the DLC starter — used to begin Hearts of Stone. Simply go to the Seven Cats Inn (there is a cutscene), if you have the DLC active.

Go meet Olgierd von Everec at the Garin Estate, then expect a boss fight at Oxenfurt sewers. After defeating it, a cutscene will play, finally introducing you to Gaunter O'Dimm. You will then get introduced to von Everec's wishes you must fulfill.

Note that this quest has 2 of the most difficult fights in the game - the Toad Prince at the sewers, but also fighting the Ofieri soldiers in the next sequence.
Quest
Dead Man's Party Region: Novigrad Signpost: Garin Estate, Brunwich Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 33
Olgierd von Everec's first wish - show Olgierd's brother Vlodimir to some fun times. The problem is, that he is dead.

Geralt and Shani must first raise him from the dead - Vlodimir then possesses Geralt's body throughout the wedding.

This quest is more funny than difficult.
Quest
Open Sesame! Region: Novigrad, Velen Signpost: Garin Estate, Oxenfurt Harbor, Herbalist's Hut Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 34
Olgierd von Everec's second wish - bring him Maximilian Borsodi's house, which is a name for a small box with Borsodi's will and documents. If you're confused at first, follow the quest and find yourself at the Borsodi Auction House in Oxenfurt, where you can bid for various items.

You'll then meet the Stranger, who will later share their plan. The Open Sesame! quest then splits into 3 pre-requisites (listed below), before the robbery can start.

Buying all of the items at the auction yields the Shopaholic achievement (Missable! if you do not purchase every auction lot).
Quest
Open Sesame: Breaking and Entering Region: Novigrad Signpost: Herbalist's Hut Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 34
One of the Open Sesame subquests, started at the Herbalist's Hut after visiting the Stranger.

Geralt goes to recruit Eveline Gallo, a skilled acrobat needed to climb a nearby tower to gain access to the auction house. The objective also asks for Hugo, but you'll soon find out that he's dead.
Quest
Open Sesame: The Safecracker Region: Novigrad Signpost: Herbalist's Hut Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 34
One of the Open Sesame subquests, started at the Herbalist's Hut after visiting the Stranger.

Geralt goes to recruit somebody to get into the safe. Either recruit Casimir in Alness (explode the safe door) or Quinto near Oxenfurt (quiet option).

The recommended way to safely use Casimir is to go immediately after him and recruit him on the spot, or he'll be unavailable very soon.
Quest
Open Sesame: Witcher Seasonings Region: Novigrad Signpost: Herbalist's Hut Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 34
One of the Open Sesame subquests, started at the Herbalist's Hut after visiting the Stranger.

Geralt needs to reduce the numbers of nearby guards, so he asks the cook Maarten to help him and lace the food.
Quest
Scenes From a Marriage Region: Novigrad Signpost: Garin Estate, Von Everec Estate Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 35
Olgierd von Everec's third wish - bring him a rose flower he once gave to his wife Iris.

Arrive at the estate and defeat The Caretaker boss to enter. Soon, you'll meet The Wraith - the remains of Iris. Defeat her by solving the puzzle (destroy the glowing paintings), then go bury her.

Then, you'll get access to Iris' memories through a painting. You'll need to revisit all spots and help Iris to close all of her painful memories, before you'll be able to finish this quest. Then either take the rose she offers (she dies, magic animals are free) or let her keep it (she stays suffering, cat and dog will also stay stuck).
Quest
Whatsoever a Man Soweth... Region: Velen Signpost: Oxenfurt Harbor Main Quest (Hearts of Stone DLC) Level 36
In The Alchemy inn, Gaunter O'Dimm has one last request - bring Von Everec to a meeting place in Velen. If you want the good ending, before going to the temple, you'll need to follow Shani to meet Professor Shakeslock in Oxenfurt.

At the Temple of Lilvani, if you talked to the professor, you can now choose two endings.

Bad Ending - Let Gaunter O'Dimm take Olgierd's soul and you can choose from many rewards, like 5000 Groschen or great utility tools like endless Alcohest replacement (Bottomless Carafe) for potion making during meditation.

Good Ending - Challenge Gaunter O'Dimm, which will transport you to a magical world; you'll need to quickly solve a riddle in a limited time frame. It's a very small area with only a few points of interest that only serve to waste your time. The only good pickup here is the Viper Venomous Silver Sword (Witcher Gear). The solution is as far from the start as possible: try to go straight across the entire map. The solution (destroying a mirror with Aard) is hidden by a Gargoyle duo. O'Dimm will break your plans, but ignore him and Aard the fountain.

All Hearts of Stone Side Quests

Hearts of Stone FAQ

How is the Hearts of Stone main quest line structured?

There are eight main quests. Three of them are the Open Sesame! setup line (Breaking and Entering, The Safecracker, Witcher Seasonings) before the heist. The story centers on Olgierd’s three wishes, then the finale against Gaunter O’Dimm in Whatsoever a Man Soweth…

What matters for the good ending versus bad ending?

For the good ending, visit Professor Shakeslock in Oxenfurt with Shani before the final meeting. At the temple you still choose how the confrontation plays out. The bad ending path trades Olgierd’s soul for rewards such as coin or utility items like the Bottomless Carafe.

What should I know about side quests and the Runewright?

Most side content is open whenever you are in the DLC area, but two quests only appear during specific main quests—they are flagged as Missable! in the checklist. The Enchanting pair is the Runewright chain: meet him at Upper Mill, bring gemstones, then purchase tier upgrades.

How many horse races are in Hearts of Stone?

Only one DLC race, started near the Upper Mill signpost against the Ofieri merchant’s horse.

Are any treasure hunts missable?

Yes. Most hunts behave like the base game, but one is missable and tied to Open Sesame! Finish that main arc before leaving the auction storyline if you want a clean sweep.

Why is Oxenfurt labeled Velen on this page?

The DLC expands the wider Novigrad map, so most pins say Novigrad even outside the city walls. Oxenfurt keeps the Velen region tag so numbering matches the rest of our Witcher 3 checklists.

What level should I be?

Quest levels on this checklist run from about 32 to 38. Pick up the notice at the Seven Cats Inn once the expansion is installed.
