All Umbilical Cords Checklist Overview
The checklist is located below this introductory text.
There are four Thirds of Umbilical Cord in Bloodborne, but you only need to collect and use three to activate the true ending (
Childhood's Beginning). After using three, the fourth is redundant and doesn't serve a function.
Note that despite there being a surplus of cords, two of them are missable, which means it is still possible to lock yourself out of the true ending and only have access to two out of three needed.

How many Thirds of Umbilical Cord are there?
This checklist tracks 4 Thirds of Umbilical Cord. You only need to use three for the true ending.
Are any Umbilical Cords missable?
Yes. Two are missable: Arianna's cord (quest Step 3) and Iosefka's cord (only after defeating Rom, the Vacuous Spider). Missing both can lock you out of Childhood's Beginning.
Do I need all four cords?
No. After you consume three, the fourth is redundant and has no further function for endings.
Which ending do the cords unlock?
Consuming three cords enables Childhood's Beginning, the true ending, and overrides Yharnam Sunrise and Honoring Wishes on that run. See the All Endings Checklist.
When can I pick up the Abandoned Old Workshop cord?
Anytime once you can reach Abandoned Old Workshop. It is the safe, non-missable cord on the ground there.
