Investigating the ambush

The quest begins at the Zhelejov Wagoners' Inn, where Godwin speaks with Innkeeper Lawrence. Learn what locals believe happened to Henry and Hans. Rumors are grim: many think both died at the battle at LocationNebakov Mill.

Optional: talk to the witnesses

Before leaving the inn, go to the barn. You meet Anna and Kuba, survivors from the mill. Anna thinks she saw Henry and Hans hanged, though she watched from a distance.

Optional reward: at the end of the talk, choose to bless Kuba. Anna gives you a Commemorative Ring worth about 450 Groschen.

Travel to the site of the ambush

Call and mount Bibiana, then follow the road southeast toward the map marker south of LocationTroskowitz. Checkpoints along the way trigger Godwin's directions.

In the forest you reach the fallen tree Zizka's men used to block the road and your attack on LocationNebakov. Godwin comments on the ambush and the game autosaves. Stay on the right path.

You may find looters on the corpses. Ignore them or fight. Godwin is a strong swordsman and often drops enemies in two or three hits. One may flee.

A man is nailed to a tree with a polearm near the looters. His gear would be great for Bohuta if you could change clothes, but you cannot here. You may keep the loot for later.

Continue down the road.

Meet Erik and defeat the bandits

At LocationNebakov Mill, one of Zizka's mercenaries stops you. A cutscene introduces Bohuta to Erik. You can ask questions: his name, that Zizka took hostages, and that Bergow's people are dead.

Looters attack you and Erik. You can agree to help.

Let NPCs take aggro first, then strike from behind. If you struggle, Godwin carries two Weak Marigold Decoctions.

After the fight, Erik is impressed and offers to take you to the Captain at LocationNebakov Fortress. Mount your horse and follow Erik.

The race to Nebakov

On the ride, Erik challenges you to a short horse race.

How to win easily: the finish is the campfire near the center of the stables. Cut through the bushes instead of the winding main path. Erik stays on the scripted route to your right.

Winning gives a small reputation boost with Erik.

Dealing with Captain Zizka

Inside the fortress you meet Captain Zizka, who duels Henry earlier. Erik introduces you. Zizka says Hans Capon is alive and Istvan Toth is inside, Henry's nemesis from the first game.

A rebellion erupts. In the chaos, Godwin and Zizka end in a stalemate with daggers at each other's throats. They share a history against the Turks and agree to a truce. Zizka promises to free Henry and Hans if you help crush the uprising.

Follow markers west toward the fortifications and clear the rebels. There are many, but you can attack from behind. A heavily armored rebel at the end carries an early firearm.

Confrontation with Istvan Toth

The story shifts to Henry and Hans in the LocationNebakov Fortress prison. Istvan Toth arrives to taunt them.

Istvan Toth at the prison in Divine Messenger

Henry exposes Toth as Sigismund's spy. Zizka throws Toth into the cell with Jaromier Nebak.

Useful questions to Toth:

  • “What do you want here?”
  • “Where's my sword?!”
  • “How are you going to get out of here?”

This fills in the setup. Otto von Bergow will soon free Toth, who takes Jaromier Nebak with him.

Toth says Zizka backs King Wenceslas, while he and Bergow serve King Sigismund, foreshadowing later alliances.

Erik arrives to break Toth and Nebak out. Istvan taunts Henry with Radzig's sword, then they flee toward LocationTrosky Castle, leaving Henry and Hans tied.

Reunite with Godwin

Godwin reaches the cells and frees Henry and Hans. The group meets on the ramparts as the spies escape.

Zizka works for Jan Sokol and Margrave Prokop, so everyone is ultimately on Wenceslas's side. This highlights Bergow's betrayal: Toth worked for him, yet Bergow never told Henry when questioned.

Ask Zizka every question if you care about the politics. He may dodge or lie (for example about Katherine). Observant players connect that Katherine warned Zizka about the attack. She appears at the banquet in For Victory! and is later shown as Zizka's ally. Sir Jan Semine and Miller Kreyzl are also tied to Zizka.

Alliance scene on Nebakov ramparts at the end of Divine Messenger

Godwin treats Zizka's eye, the wound Henry gave in the duel in For Victory!

Zizka wants to leave LocationNebakov Fortress before Bergow retaliates. Godwin suggests Rattay, where Henry, Hans, and he began.

Alliance locked. The story continues in Main questThe Finger of God. See the Finger of God quest guide for the full walkthrough.

Divine Messenger FAQ

How do I win the horse race against Erik?

The finish is the campfire near the center of the stables. Cut through the bushes instead of the winding main path. Erik stays on his scripted route, so the shortcut gives an easy lead. Winning slightly improves reputation with Erik.

Does Lent apply to Bohuta?

Yes. On a Lent achievement run, do not eat meat or kill animals even while playing Father Godwin. The same rules as for Henry apply.

How do I get the Commemorative Ring?

At the Zhelejov Wagoners' Inn barn, speak with Anna and Kuba. Choose to bless Kuba when prompted at the end. Anna rewards you with a Commemorative Ring worth about 450 Groschen.

What weapon and armor does Godwin start with?

How do I survive the fight with Zizka's rebels?

Go west to the fortifications. Let NPCs take aggro, then strike from behind. Godwin can kill quickly with his sword. If you struggle, use his two Weak Marigold Decoctions. The last rebel is heavily armored and carries an early firearm.

What quest comes after Divine Messenger?

The Finger of God. After Godwin treats Zizka's eye and the alliance is set, the story continues at Nebakov Fortress with Henry.
