Civic Duty is a task in
Kuttenberg that acts as the lawful mirror to the Hole in the Wall Kuttenberg guild line. You can snitch on the thieves' guild to the bailiff and still complete Rat, Chenyek, and Knuckles quests as normal, but the finale forces a hard split with
The Spark.
Civic Duty and the side quest
The Spark are mutually exclusive. To finish Civic Duty you must betray the guild in the final step and prevent the Horschan mine from exploding. Wrapping up Civic Duty that way fails The Spark.
Starting the task
You can begin after
Feast for the Poor is underway (Feast for the Poor guide). Go to Kuttenberg Town Hall. Bailiff Andreas Plümel is usually in his second-floor office. Use the rear courtyard, then the stairs on the left.
Pick dialogue to report the Hole in the Wall guild. Plümel asks you to stay undercover and return with news as you learn more.
Phase 1: tips during the guild chain
Start anytime and collect extra Groschen from the bailiff as you advance. After each of these quests or tasks, return to Plümel with an update:
- Feast for the Poor (
Feast for the Poor) - The Thieves' Code (
The Thieves' Code) - Beyond the Grave (
Beyond the Grave) - The German's Treasure (
The German's Treasure)
Plümel pays about 30 Groschen per significant tip. Still complete work for Rat, Chenyek, and Knuckles the usual way.
Phase 2: The Spark finale
The task concludes during
The Spark, when the guild wants you to destroy a mine near Horschan with black powder. For the full guild-route walkthrough (powder, Goliath, achievement, payouts), see The Spark guide.
For Civic Duty:
- Inform Plümel before you finish the guild's plan: tell him about blowing the mine. He tells you to stop them.
- Play The Spark until you deliver the black powder barrel to the guildsmen at the campfire.
To complete Civic Duty, make sure the mine is not destroyed. A reliable route: after the handoff, talk to the guildsmen as normal until the fire starts and you are left with Goliath heading to the mine mouth.
Do not kill Goliath. Either leave the area or throw the black powder into the campfire to earn
Remember, Remember…. Those choices fail The Spark. If you want both Civic Duty and the guild ending on one character, save before you would kill Goliath and plan separate branches.
Do not murder guildsmen just to fail the quest. The bailiff favors a clean resolution.
Conclusion and rewards
After the plot is foiled, return to Bailiff Andreas Plümel.
- Final reward: 150 Groschen
- Total earnings: up to about 270 Groschen if you delivered every intermediate tip
- Reputation: strong gains with Kuttenberg guards and the bailiff
Finishing this line closes Civic Duty and the lawful side of the Hole in the Wall arc.
