X Marks The Spot is a treasure hunt task found in the village of
Pschitoky. While it promises riches, you will soon find that the path to gold is rarely straightforward in the
Kuttenberg region.
How to Unlock X Marks The Spot
To begin this quest, you must have completed the main quest Speak of the Devil (
Speak of the Devil). You can be directed to the quest giver by Innkeeper Wolfram Raus at the tavern located south of Pschitoky along the main road to Kuttenberg.
Head into Pschitoky and find a hired hand named Krizhan, who is either working at the construction site, in his house or walking towards the inn.
Hired Hand Krizhan looks like this:
Speak with him, and he will claim to have found a treasure map behind a wall in a cellar. He is willing to part with it for 100 Groschen. Pay the fee to receive Krizhan's Treasure Map and start the search.
This is the Krizhan's Treasure Map:
Finding the Treasure Location
Open your inventory to inspect the map. It features messy drawings of roads and landmarks pointing toward the eastern side of the Kuttenberg region.
Do not get distracted by the massive red circle. Let's first focus on the X.
The Bandit Camp
The location marked on the map is an Enemy Camp situated northwest of the
Sedletz Monastery. When you arrive at the correct area, Henry will remark that he is in the right place.
Treasure Location on Map:
The camp is guarded by a small group of four very weak bandits. You will need to eliminate them before you can search the area. There is nothing worthy of loot on them or in the camp.
Once the camp is clear, look for a mineshaft entrance tucked off to the right of the path that runs north-south through the area.
The Secret in the Mine
Enter the mineshaft at the back of the camp. Inside the tunnel, you will encounter the bandit leader and another guard actively digging.
You can choose to attack the bandit leader or engage him in conversation after he surrenders. He reveals that his group is here for the exact same reason you are. They have a copy of the same treasure map from Krizhan.
If you loot his body or search the area, you will find an identical copy of the map you purchased from Krizhan. You can attempt to dig in the remaining three spots, but you will quickly realize there is no treasure to be found and Krizhan is a cheater.
Confronting Krizhan
Return to Pschitoky to have a word with Krizhan about the authenticity of his "discovery."
X Marks The Spot All Endings
When you confront him with the second map, you can pass an easy Speech or Intimidation check to get him to confess. He will admit that he forged the maps and sold them to multiple people to make a quick profit. After hearing his excuse, you have two main choices:
Demand Your Money Back: You can force him to return your 100 Groschen.
Be Lenient: If you respond kindly and let him keep the money, Krizhan will feel indebted to you. This is the best outcome for completionists, as it unlocks Krizhan as a skill teacher.
Choosing to let him keep the coin effectively trades your 100 Groschen for a permanent new training NPC in the region. Once you have made your decision, the task is complete.
