Popinjay Shoot Quest Guide | Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

TaskPopinjay Shoot is a short activity that concludes Foreman Vlach's questline with the Striped Tonies in KuttenbergKuttenberg. This guide covers how to start, how to place in the crossbow contest, and what you earn for winning or losing.

How to start Popinjay Shoot

The task appears in your journal automatically after Side questStriped Tonies (Striped Tonies guide), which follows Side questYackers'n'Fash (Yackers 'n' Fash guide).

Unlike the stealth and procession beats earlier in the chain, this step is a straight shooting competition and stays quick.

Popinjay Shoot task start in journal after Striped Tonies

Meeting Foreman Vlach

The contest runs at the shooting range in the Hoprink district, southeast Kuttenberg. Text often suggests the morning after Striped Tonies, but the objective stays active until you actually visit the range.

Go around 7:00 to 9:00 AM. Foreman Vlach waits outside the wall by the range.

One attempt

You only get one try at the contest. Refusing Vlach fails the task immediately. Save with PotionSaviour Schnapps before dialogue. This is also a good moment for PotionBowman's Brew.

Vlach explains that Anton Kaspar is in no shape to shoot. He asks you to stand in as champion for the Striped Tonies.

How to win the shooting competition

You shoot wooden popinjay targets with a crossbow. You have nine shots for nine targets. Two rival miners shoot as well and are reasonably accurate.

To win you usually need at least four hits, beating the others. Opponents often land two or three each. The event ends as soon as all nine targets are hit, so pace matters.

Tips: prioritize close birds and birds on poles (use the pole as a vertical guide). Crossbows drop more than bows, so aim a bit lower than bow instinct. If you lack a crossbow when the contest begins, the game hands you one. A short cutscene plays when the round finishes.

Rewards and outcomes

The story continues whether you win or lose, but payouts differ sharply.

If you lose or score too low: no prize or only about 60 Groschen consolation.

Winning the Popinjay Shoot competition in Kuttenberg

If you win:

  • 375 Groschen total (150 from the tournament, 225 from Vlach)
  • Miners' crossbow
  • Bird king's badge
  • Miner's cap
  • Experience in Marksmanship and Agility

Either way, finishing the shoot closes Foreman Vlach's mining questline for the Striped Tonies.
