Mark of the Brotherhood is a task in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 that follows the completion of 
Ars Dimicatoria. To lead the brotherhood properly, Menhard needs to recover the guild's symbolic longsword, which was never returned by the butcher Emmeram.
Starting the Task
After Menhard takes over the Swordfighting Guild, ask him if he has any work for you. This option becomes available only 3–4 days after the quest Ars Dimicatoria is actually finished, which is another 3 days after the tournament against Kuttenberg Brotherhood.
Therefore, this quest appears almost a week after you did most of the work for Menhard. The task Last Will can also be started on the same terms, along with this quest.
Starting or completing the actual quest “Kuttenberg Tournament” is not at all necessary for this quest to appear.
Step 1: Speak to Emmeram
Menhard will task you with retrieving the Guild Longsword from Emmeram.
Locate Emmeram at his butcher shop near the town hall in central Kuttenberg. When confronted, he will claim that in a fit of rage, he threw the sword into the city's rubbish heaps and expresses regret.
As a side note, Butcher Emmeram is one of the most universally hated characters in the game. He appears as a minor character in many quests and always manages to be more and more obnoxious.
Step 2: The Landfill Search
Head to the garbage landfill located just outside the city walls, south of the city (accessible through a gate west of Ruthard Palace). The area is nasty; before going in, it's a good idea to strip all of Henry's clothes.

You must bring a spade for this objective.
The area is guarded by three wild dogs. They are aggressive and will attack on sight; deal with them before searching. Remember that if you are on a Lent run, you must only use your hands!
Look for rectangular dirt piles (similar to grave sites) rather than piles of trash. There are three specific spots to dig.

After checking all three, Henry will realize the sword isn't there and that Emmeram lied.
Step 3: Confront the Butcher
Return to Emmeram to confront him about the deception. You have several ways to handle the situation, depending on your dialogue choices:
- Some dialogue options simply convince him to hand it over; choose Be reasonable.
- Fistfight: Challenge him to a brawl to put him in his place. This is not recommended; you will fight three men instead of one and it is easy to accidentally kill Emmeram, leading to problems with guards.
- Stealth: You can pickpocket the item from him or sneak into his home at night to steal it from a chest.
Regardless of your method, you will discover the Broken Guild Longsword. Emmeram has smashed the icon into two pieces out of spite.
Step 4: Reforge the Guild Sword
Bring the broken pieces to Menhard. Since Henry is a trained blacksmith, Menhard asks you to repair it yourself. You will automatically receive the recipe for the Reforged Guild Longsword.
Required Materials:
- 1× Broken Guild Longsword (quest item)
- 1× Fastening Material
- 2× Toledo Steel
You can purchase the Fastening Material and Toledo Steel from any of the armorers or swordsmiths in Kuttenberg. Once you have the materials, use any available forge in the city to complete the repair.
Rewards
Return the repaired Guild Longsword to Menhard at the fighthall. This successfully restores the brotherhood's icon and completes the task.
Menhard rewards you with 100 Groschen.
