This guide contains a walkthrough to the
Horses for Courses task. This quest is about the dispute about which sport is better - horse racing or mounted archery.
Speak either to Horse Handler Mikolai or Bibrek in
Nomads' Camp to begin - each will send you to the other one to talk to next.
Finishing Horses for Courses will unlock the
Horse Racing and
Mounted Archery repeatable activities.
Mikolai and Bibrek will soon introduce you to the dispute over the shared altar. Mikolai thinks horse racing is the superior sport, while Bibrek believes it is mounted archery. It is best to not pick sides in their conflict in order to not lose reputation.
Stay neutral in their argument so you do not take a reputation hit before you compete for both sides.
Anyway, you are their champion and will perform in both sports, then declare the winner. Choose whatever sport you want as first.
Mounted Archery
Starting with Bibrek begins the small task
Mounted Archery.
The game offers an extensive tutorial when talking to Bibrek. You can use a bow or a crossbow and will shoot targets while galloping around a circuit on horseback.
There are a total of three circuits you must complete, each with a minimum amount of points you have to score.
- The first circuit is called The Torque and you need 10 points.
- The second circuit is called The Hounskull and you need 14 points.
- The third circuit is called The Wineskin and you need 16 points.
You can repeat your tries until you complete it. Remember that you can slow down or even stop for any of the targets, especially the small ones that yield high points. If you start stopping for every target, you will easily win every race.
Completing all three race circuits finishes the task Mounted Archery. You can resolve the dispute now or go do the other sport and decide fairly.
Horse Racing
Starting with Mikolai begins the small task
Horse Racing. If you don't have upgraded Pebbles, this is almost impossible to win, but try this a few times anyway and you will upgrade your horse soon enough.
In the races, follow the checkpoints marked on the map and radar. You can identify them by the tall columns of smoke.
Here are also three total horse races.
- The first circuit goes around the
Semine Pond interesting site. - The second circuit goes past
Semine Pond,
Schdiar - West Farm,
Zhelejov and back. - The last third circuit goes through
Zhelejov,
Quarry below Trosky,
Troskowitz Cemetery and
Slatego.
Final Judgement and Rewards
Choose the dialogue option to judge and you'll be transported next to the altar close to
Nomads' Camp. It is now up to you which sport you'll choose as the best.
You can try to weasel out and choose the option that both are best, but you are going to have to back it up with at least 12 Scholarship skill check.
The task
Horses for Courses then ends, rewarding you with a Tin Headstart badge. You can reattempt the Horse Races and Mounted Archery tasks as repeatable activities any time.
Horses for Courses FAQ
Where do I start Horses for Courses?
At
Nomads' Camp. Talk to Mikolai or Bibrek; they ping-pong you between each other before you compete.
Does order matter for archery vs racing?
No. Pick either sport first. You must finish all three archery circuits and all three races before judging.
What if I fail mounted archery or a race?
Archery allows retries until you hit the point threshold. For races, keep trying - upgrading Pebbles makes Mikolai's races much more doable.
What does the "both sports" dialogue need?
At least 12 Scholarship to convince them both disciplines are equally best.
Where is the judgement altar?
Choosing to judge teleports you beside the shared altar near
Nomads' Camp.
What do I get for finishing?
A Tin Headstart badge, plus permanent access to repeatable Mounted Archery and Horse Races.
