Osquio - Final Boss of Verso's Drafts DLC
Osquio is the main story boss and final encounter of Verso's Drafts DLC, located in the Root of All Evil sub-area. This is one of the most challenging boss fights in the entire DLC, requiring careful strategy and preparation.
Location: Root of All Evil (accessed via train from Reverie Path Flag). From the Reverie Path Flag, follow the main path to the statue of Esquie's head. Use the train and enter the portal of Root of All Evil subarea. Rest at the Main Field Flag and face Osquio.
Combat Strategy: Osquio has an incredible amount of HP, making this a long endurance fight. Use Maelle's Defenceless skill to help reduce his massive health bar. Elemental Overload or Follow Up cycles from Lune and Verso are highly recommended. Make sure your weapons are upgraded to at least level 20 before attempting this fight. Be prepared for a long fight - Osquio has an incredible amount of HP. For detailed strategies on defeating Osquio, especially at lower levels, see our DLC Low Level Combat Strategy Guide.
Rewards for defeating Osquio:
- Esquiso weapon for Verso
- Osquio Outfit for Verso
- Osquio Haircut for Verso
- 1 Perfect Chroma Catalyst
- 3 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
- 10 Colours of Lumina
- Recoat
Post-Boss Merchant: After defeating Osquio, a cutscene plays. After it ends, you can find a new merchant in front of the Arena. This merchant sells the remaining 4 Osquio Outfits and Haircuts for the remaining Characters: Osquio Haircut (Lune, Maelle, Monoco, Sciel) - 5000 Chroma each, and Osquio Outfit (Lune, Maelle, Monoco, Sciel) - 20000 Chroma each.
Chromatic Barbasucette
The Chromatic Barbasucette is one of four new Chromatic boss variants introduced in Verso's Drafts DLC. Chromatic bosses are enhanced versions of regular enemies with increased health, enhanced attack patterns, and greater resistance to damage.
Location: Reverie Path area, coming out of the waterfall cave where you find the Toy Boat. Near the Reverie Path Expedition Flag, find a waterfall with a large cave inside where you pick up the Toy Boat quest item. Coming out of this waterfall cave, you will meet the Chromatic Barbasucette boss.
Combat Strategy: Like all Chromatic bosses, this encounter requires patience and mastery of parrying, jump counters, and Gradient counters. Learning the enemy's attack patterns is essential, especially if you're attempting the DLC at lower levels. The boss can inflict a status effect that prevents you from dealing more than 1 damage for many turns, so be prepared to counter this debuff. Chromatic bosses employ devastating enhanced attacks (compared to original enemy versions), making them some of the most parry-demanding encounters in Expedition 33.
Rewards for defeating Chromatic Barbasucette:
- Sucetton weapon for Sciel
- 5 Colours of Lumina
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
Chromatic Licorne
The Chromatic Licorne is another challenging Chromatic variant found in Verso's Drafts. This boss requires careful positioning and timing to defeat.
Location: Reverie Path area, reached by continuing on the right path and climbing handholds after the parkour challenge. Cross the colourful xylophone and behind an enemy group, find golden crates you can climb to reach a Parkour challenge. After completing the parkour challenge, continuing on the right and climbing the handholds leads you to the Chromatic Licorne boss fight.
Combat Strategy: Use patience and counters to defeat this boss. The Chromatic Licorne employs devastating enhanced attacks compared to regular Licorne enemies, making parrying essential. Elemental weaknesses and proper Pictos loadouts will significantly help in this encounter. Make sure to have powerful Pictos or Weapons to help you. Parrying, jump counters, Gradient counters and elemental weaknesses are a must.
Rewards for defeating Chromatic Licorne:
- Licorum Weapon
- 5 Colours of Lumina
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
Chromatic Machinapieds
The Chromatic Machinapieds is located in the Candy Land area, accessible after completing the Gestral Carousel quest.
Location: Candy Land area, found by locating a path opposite the Very Very Cool Gestral (near the carousel). Past the Candy Land Expedition Flag, you can discover a Gestral Carousel. Talk to the Very Very Cool Gestral on the left to get a ticket to skip the line. After riding the carousel with all characters, locate a path opposite the Very Very Cool Gestral to reach the Chromatic Machinapieds boss fight.
Combat Strategy: This Chromatic variant features enhanced attack patterns from the standard Machinapieds enemy. Focus on parrying its attacks and exploiting elemental weaknesses. The fight requires sustained damage output and careful resource management. Like all Chromatic bosses, these formidable opponents often feature increased health, enhanced attack patterns, and resistance to certain damage types.
Rewards for defeating Chromatic Machinapieds:
- Cannaro weapon for Monoco (only available after the mid-December patch - was previously unobtainable due to a glitch)
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
- 5 Colours of Lumina
Chromatic Franctale
The Chromatic Franctale is the fourth Chromatic boss variant in Verso's Drafts DLC, located near the end of the Candy Land exploration path.
Location: Candy Land area, reached by crossing the large gate after defeating Chromatic Machinapieds, then descending the rope and focusing to the right. After defeating the Chromatic Machinapieds, cross the large gate and immediately focus to the right. Descend the rope and face the Chromatic Franctale boss fight.
Combat Strategy: This boss fight requires mastery of the game's combat mechanics. The Chromatic Franctale employs complex attack patterns that demand precise timing for parries and counters. Make sure to have powerful Pictos equipped to maximize your damage output. Many Chromatic Bosses employ devastating enhanced attacks, making them some of the most parry-demanding encounters in Expedition 33.
Rewards for defeating Chromatic Franctale:
- Esqium weapon for Maelle (found in the arena after defeating the boss)
- 5 Colours of Lumina
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
Licornapieds
The Licornapieds is an optional boss located near the Licornapieds Station Expedition Flag, accessible after opening the Gingerbread Door.
Location: Licornapieds Station area. After opening the Gingerbread Door (which requires 3 Pieces of Cake), continue inside to reach the Licornapieds Station Expedition Flag. The Licornapieds boss is nearby.
Combat Strategy: This boss encounter follows standard boss combat mechanics. Use your standard combat strategies, focusing on parrying attacks and exploiting openings. The boss is located in a relatively open area, giving you space to maneuver.
Rewards for defeating Licornapieds:
- Frenzy Pictos
- Colours of Lumina
- Chroma Catalysts
Half-baked Gestral (Balloons) - Unique Miniboss
The Half-baked Gestral with balloons is a unique optional miniboss encounter that requires a different approach than typical boss fights.
Location: Small bath area with Gestrals and seesaws, north of the forest area (after the Gingerbread Door area). Continue north from the Gingerbread Door area to exit the forest and reach another, small bath area with Gestrals and seesaws. Some of the nearby balloons are suspicious - shoot them to fight the Half-baked Gestral miniboss.
Combat Strategy: This is a unique bossfight that requires shooting the suspicious balloons rather than direct combat. Some of the nearby balloons are suspicious - shoot them to trigger the fight with the Half-baked Gestral miniboss. The encounter focuses on ranged attacks and positioning rather than traditional melee combat. This unique mechanic makes it stand out from other boss encounters in the DLC.
Rewards for defeating Half-baked Gestral (balloons):
- Trigger-Happy Pictos
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
- Revive Tint Shard (found just near the Gestral after the fight)
Mime (Monoco Items)
The Mime in Verso's Drafts DLC is located in the Candy Land area and follows the same combat pattern as other Mimes throughout the game, but with significantly increased health.
Location: Candy Land area, reached by taking a path with handholds to the left of the Candy Land Expedition Flag, then spotting a sidepath after a few handholds. Just to the left of the Candy Land Expedition Flag, find a path with handholds. After a few handholds, spot a sidepath with Esquion - a weapon for Sciel. Continue along the handholds to find this area's Mime.
Combat Strategy: Mimes have an incredible amount of HP, so prepare for a long fight. They always attack with 3-hit hand-slash and 4-hit hammer combos that are easy to parry, counter, and master. However, you'll need to repeat this pattern many times to defeat this Mime due to its massive health pool. Using Maelle's Defenceless skill proved to be very helpful in reducing his health bar. This is a test of long-period, sustainable combat as Mimes have high defense and resistance. Mimes are unique optional bosses that test your long-period, sustainable combat, as they mostly have high defense and resistance.
Rewards for defeating Mime (Monoco items):
- Baguette Haircut for Monoco
- Baguette Outfit for Monoco
- Baguettaro weapon for Monoco
- 2 Grandiose Chroma Catalysts
Understanding Babrapapa Status Effect - How to Remove Babrapapa and Clear Babrapapa
What is Babrapapa?
The new Babrapapa status effect is inflicted by almost every enemy in Verso's Drafts and is virtually unavoidable. Every stack means one hit is reduced to 1 damage, with enemies inflicting 2 to 4 stacks at a time, often two turns in a row. This completely invalidates your incoming damage output.
This creates a devastating cycle: your character can effectively get stuck for 4 turns because of 6 Babrapapa hits, and cannot produce more hits faster to clear the status.
How to Remove Babrapapa and Clear Babrapapa Status Effect
You can either use efficient skills that deal multiple hits, or use character-specific skills to clear the status effect. Here are the best options to remove Babrapapa and clear Babrapapa:
- Lune's Healing Light - Clears status effects from allies
- Sciel's Dark Cleansing - Excellent option for removing status effects
- Verso's Burden Skill - Helps him gain Rank while recovering others, but in return, he will still carry Babrapapa and even his companions' cured status effects
Maelle struggles to remove this debuff more than other characters, but her Defenceless skill is invaluable for reducing enemy health bars even when affected by Babrapapa.
Babrapapa and Boss Fights
Many Chromatic bosses in Verso's Drafts can inflict the Babrapapa status effect, making it essential to have status-clearing strategies ready. The boss can inflict a status effect that prevents you from dealing more than 1 damage for many turns, so be prepared to counter this debuff during boss encounters.
For detailed strategies on countering Babrapapa and optimizing your builds, see our DLC Low Level Combat Strategy Guide.
General Boss Strategy Tips
Combat Preparation
- Weapon upgrades: Upgrade your weapons to at least level 20 before attempting the DLC bosses, especially Osquio. The DLC recommends a high level, but if you want to explore it quickly, you can do with weapon level 20 and Elemental Overload or Follow Up cycles, provided by Lune and Verso.
- Pictos optimization: Equip powerful Pictos that complement your combat style. Elemental Overload or Follow Up cycles from Lune and Verso are highly recommended.
- Character builds: Optimize your character builds for Verso, Lune, and Maelle. Maelle's Defenceless skill is particularly useful for high-HP bosses.
- Status effect management: Many enemies in the DLC inflict a debuff that prevents you from dealing more than 1 damage for many turns. Maelle struggles to remove this debuff more than other characters, but her Defenceless skill is invaluable for reducing enemy health bars.
Combat Techniques
- Learn enemy patterns: All bosses in Verso's Drafts require understanding their attack patterns, especially if you're underleveled. Take time to observe and learn before committing to attacks. Learning enemy patterns will be necessary, especially if you are low level.
- Parrying is essential: Chromatic bosses employ devastating enhanced attacks that make parrying, jump counters, and Gradient counters essential for success. Many Chromatic Bosses employ devastating enhanced attacks (compared to original enemy versions), making them some of the most parry-demanding encounters in Expedition 33.
- Elemental weaknesses: Exploit elemental weaknesses whenever possible. Proper Pictos loadouts and weapon choices can significantly impact your damage output.
- Resource management: Boss fights in Verso's Drafts are often long endurance tests. Manage your AP, healing items, and character rotations carefully.
